1. Provision of House sites for Adi-Dravidars

The Department of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare is providing free house site pattas to the poor houseless Adi Dravidar and Tribal families whose annual income is less than Rs.40,000/- in the rural areas and Rs.60,000/- in the urban areas. The extent of each house site is one cent in corporations,  one and a half cent in Municipalities and 3 cents in rural areas. Every year specific target is being fixed for this purpose and the Special Tahsildars (Adi Dravidar Welfare) who are the Land Acquisition Officers are acquiring land for implementing the scheme as per the provisions made in The Tamil Nadu Acquisition of Land for Harijan Welfare Schemes Act, 31 of 1978. The land is also acquired through private negotiations by a committee headed by the District Collectors and the land so acquired by private negotiation is distributed to eligible persons. During 2013-2014,  a sum of Rs.252.51 lakhs was spent. During 2014-15 a sum of Rs.512.93 lakhs has been provided.

2. Housing

Under Indira Awaas Yojana Scheme, 60% of houses are provided to Adi Dravidar / Tribal by Rural Development Department.

3. Drinking water

Supply of protected drinking water to the Adi Dravidar and Tribal habitations is one of the schemes which is given priority under infrastructure development. The maximum financial limit for digging a well is at Rs. 75,000/-. Bore wells are being provided instead of ordinary open wells. Pipe lines are extended if over head tanks are available nearby. 

A sum of Rs.13.83 lakhs has been spent during 2013-2014 and 35 works were completed. Allotment for 2014-2015 is Rs.15.00 lakhs.

 4. Burial Grounds and Pathways

Burial grounds to the Adi Dravidar habitations and pathways to burial grounds are undertaken under this scheme. Funds are provided for acquiring and purchasing land for this purpose. Panchayat Unions are also providing basic amenities to the Adi Dravidar habitations from their funds.  For this purpose 15% for drinking water facilities and 10% for link roads are given as share (contribution) of this Department.

A sum of Rs.58.74 lakhs was spent during the year 2013-14. Allotment for
2014-2015 is Rs.75.84 lakhs.

5. Community Halls

            Community Halls are constructed in a phased manner from 1971-72 onwards in the Adi Dravidar Colonies to cater to the need of Adi Dravidar for the purpose of conducting marriages, social functions, meetings etc., During 2013-14 a sum of Rs.52.25 lakhs has been spent and 3 Community Halls were constructed by TAHDCO at Rs.17.25 lakhs  per Community Hall.

6. Payment of grant for funeral rites

The Government have sanctioned a scheme of granting financial assistance to Adi Dravidar/ Tribal and Adi Dravidar converted to Christianity to meet the expenditure connected with funeral rites in the event of death. These benefits are distributed through the respective local bodies. A sum of Rs. 2500/- is given as financial assistance to the legal heirs of the deceased. During 2013-2014 a sum of Rs.500.00 lakhs was spent and 20,000 persons were benefited. Allotment for 2014-2015 is Rs.500.00 lakhs.
